Off Camera Flash with Pocket-Wizards

If you’ve been to the Strobist site and read Lighting 101 you’ve certainly seen references to Pocket-Wizards. These remote flash triggers give you far more working distance (over 1500 feet) than cords or wireless systems built into some DSLRs. Many professional photographers use Pocket-Wizards.
Using a unit on the camera as a Transmitter allows triggering multiple Receiver units. Because the Pocket-Wizards work on radio frequencies you don’t need a direct line of sight between them. You can put a Receiver and flash around a corner, under a table, or practically anywhere you want.
Normally, your flash units will be set to Manual mode and perhaps even powered down to 1/2 or 1/4 power. This will give consistent exposures and fairly quick recycle times. Being that you only need a flash with Manual power and a connection for the Pocket-Wizard, you can use less expensive units like the Vivitar 283/285, Sunpak 383 or the older Nikon SB-24 flashes suggested on the Strobist site.
You can check out the Pocket-Wizard Plus II here. Just remember that you need at least 2 of them.
