Pet Photos Without Demon-Eye
By Karl Peschel on Jun 30, 2007 in Digital SLR, camera flash, lighting
When HP’s Pet-Eye function finally arrives in their Point & Shoot cameras animal owners will get better flash photos. Until then you’ll have to paint the animal’s eyes in with your photo editing software. (Umm, please don’t paint their actual eyes!)
DSLR owners can simply use an off camera flash to eliminate Demon-eyes. For this photo of my friend’s dog Chester I used my SB-600 and an SC-17 cord. The cord allowed communication between the camera and flash. It also permitted me to hold the flash off to the side. No direct flash into the eyes equals no Demon-Eyes.
The same method works for eliminating redeye in people pictures. You should experiment with off camera flash and see for yourself.
