New Nikon D3 and D300. Take THAT Canon!
By Karl Peschel on Aug 24, 2007 in Announcement, Digital SLR
Never to be outdone, Nikon has announced 2 new digital SLRs. The D3 and D300 are the latest additions to the lineup. And so continues the never ending leap frogging of Canon, Nikon, Canon, Nikon, Canon, Nikon…
The D3 is Nikon’s first DSLR with a full frame sensor. The 12 MP CMOS sensor will go from ISO 200 to a whopping 6400! Add to this the new 51 point AF system, continuous shooting at 9 or 11 fps (11 without AF tracking), dual CF card slots, a super crisp 3 inch Live LCD, and a host of other features. The Nikon D3 is one heck of a picture taking machine. (Apparently, Nikon never saw my post from a few days ago about a Live LCD!)
The D300 is replacing the D200, which is in short supply from what I understand. It also comes in at 12 MP, but with an APS-C size sensor and the accompanying 1.5 magnification factor. The D300 shares some of the D3 technology, like the 51 point AF, ISO to 6400, 3 inch Live view LCD and the same image processor. The D300 appears to be Nikon’s answer to the Canon 40D, but Nikon users will pay $500-600 more for the D300.
Both cameras are slated to ship in November, just in time for Christmas. Further info and specs can be found at Nikon USA. Reviews are already posted on dpReview.
