I recently found a website that lists Photo contests, Calls for Entries, and Art Shows from around the US. Visit ArtPerk.com and you can search by event type or geographical location (they wisely use the power of Google Maps).

No matter what type of photography you do you’re sure to find a number of places to enter your work. Each listing gives details about the contest or show, submission requirements, and entry fees (if any).

ArtPerk.com is a free listing service, so if you are organizing a photo contest or art show you should list it there. Gain more exposure for your event and get more entries.

I’m not affiliated with ArtPerk, just passing on a good online resource.

There are 2 photo contests that are awarding the same prizes! Cool. Maybe Outdoor Photographer and PCPhoto are owned by the same company. Either way, you have 2 chances to win.

Both contests have similar entry rules:

enter up to 2 photos
maximum file size is 125K each image, size up to 640 x 480 pixels and resolution of 72 dpi
winning images will be published in the magazines

The Grand Prize is the Winner’s choice of ONE of the following three prizes: Canon EOS 40D camera, Nikon D300 camera, $1,500 cash.

You’ll also get a 16×20 print from Duggal Labs.

Photo Contest – American Humane Society

Would you like to win $2000 or $500 for a cute shot of your pet? You could if you enter the Pets & Pals Photo Contest being put on by the American Humane Society. The deadline is July 31, 2007 and you have to send in a print (from film or digital capture). No online submissions for this one.

The categories are:

Best Pals – Your pet either alone or with their best friends — human or animal.
New! Families and Pets – Since many pets are considered part of the family.
Down on the Farm – Interesting moments of your farm animals.
Shelter Life – Show the good things happening in your local animal shelter or humane society.

Two Grand Prize winners will each win $2,000 cash and a prize package from American Humane and four Category Prize winners will each win $500 cash and a prize package. See the official rules for details. Winners will be announced in August 2007.

Found a few more contests you may be interested in.

Do you own an Olympus digital camera? If so, you need to enter their Summer Photo Contest. Olympus is accepting submissions thru Aug 10, 2007 and winners in each of the four categories will receive $100 Amex gift certificates. Categories are Kids & Family, Travel, Scenic and Wildlife and you can submit 2 photos per category. Get full details on the Contest here.

My favorite wildlife group, National Wildlife Federation, is also sponsoring a Photo Contest . Sorry that this is short notice for it. The entry deadline is July 1, 2007 and entries can be made via their website or through the mail. You can enter as a Pro, Amateur or Youth (at least 13 years old) in any of the 8 categories. Photo Contests – Tamron and Ritz Camera

There are 2 photo contests that started recently that I wanted to alert you to.

Would you like to add a Tamron 18-250 AF lens to your arsenal? Enter your best photo of a natural or manmade landmark from anywhere around the world and this great new lens could be yours. The contest is open to US residents only. You can enter Tamron’s Make Your Mark photo contest via mail or email and entries must be received by Oct 31, 2007. Details are at their website.

If you have a preference for cold hard cash you could enter the Ritz Camera Summer photo contest. Each of the 5 category winners get $2,000 and 45 more winners get either $1,000 or $500. Print entries can be dropped off at any Ritz or Wolf Camera store or sent via email. Details are in the Summer catalog and on their website. Deadline is Sept 15, 2007. Search through your stash of photos and see if you’ve got a winner.

** I checked the Ritz website and they still have info about the 2006 contest!! Being an ex-employee I’m not surprised they haven’t updated the website. Contest started yesterday! Be patient, check the website again in a few days, or just go grab a catalog from your local store. The entry form is in it.
** UPDATE 6/19/07 The website is correct now, but they don’t have the entry form online (sheesh!). Deadline is Sept 15th and MAYBE they’ll have the form online by then.
